The Kingdom of Bahrain has taken major steps towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations General Assembly, aligning its national development agenda accordingly. Since 2000, Bahrain has responded nationwide to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) initiated by the United Nations.

The Kingdom addressed each of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), achieving all its targets in 2015. It has also issued reports and publications from time to time, in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), which showcase its MDG progress.

Since adopting the SDGs, Bahrain has closely monitored its achievements and presented them at the High-Level Political Forum in July 2018. The Kingdom also published the Water Report (in Arabic only) to monitor the progress made towards the implementation of the targets and indicators of the sixth SDG in February 2018. The first of its kind in the region, the report highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to the international agenda and global sustainable development trends.
