The "Mogador Island" is a natural reserve and settlement for a significant number of rare birds such as gulls, "alienor" falcons, cormorants (seabird), swallows, blue pigeons and songbirds. This island is a stopover for some migratory birds during their travel twice a year (autumn and spring), and a refuge for some types of reptiles and hares, which colonize the place, thus establish the natural cycle of wildlife.
Due to its ecological richness and the increasing interest in its natural and biological diversity, a hunting reserve was classified by the ministerial decision in 1962 and amended in 1979, as it became a biological and ecological site, adopted in 1996 within the framework of the master plan for protected areas in Morocco and the “Ramsar” site in 2005.
All these biological and ecological characteristics that abound in the "Mogador Island" in the classification of this site have contributed to a global heritage of humanity with UNESCO in 1981.
